It’s Your Move. Make it!
As the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to change the way we all socialize, shop, and conduct business– we want you to know that with The Home Team, the move you’ve been contemplating or have planned, is still entirely possible! And because of your safety and the safety of our staff are always our priority, we’ve revisited and revised our customer experience to reflect the times. We are ensuring company adherence to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO) social distancing and sanitization recommendations by implementing the following guidelines for our teams:
- No physical contact with customers (handshakes, high-fives, etc.)
- Possession and use of hand-sanitizer (with at least 60% alcohol) both between and during jobs.
- Use of gloves
- Frequent handwashing with soap and hot water for at least 20 seconds every 30 minutes
- Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth, ESPECIALLY when on a job-site
- Clean and disinfect areas and belongings with Lysol frequently before and after visiting job-sites.
- If feeling ill, drop shift(s) and stay home.
Whether you work with us at The Home Team, do it yourself, or engage another moving company, there is information available that you’ll want to have during this time to ensure as seamless a relocation as possible…
Moving related services are still available.
Like most moving companies, most major storage companies continue to run operations. However, due to the requisite six feet or more of space between customer and customer, and customer and employee– what you can likely expect is limited hours of accessibility and/or a reduction in the number of customers who are able to access their units at any one time.
Cleaning companies are also operational, and it may be a good idea to hire one to clean and sanitize both the space you are relocating from, and the space you are relocating to. The folks at moovingfeedback.com have published a comprehensive guide where you can find information about different cleaning options (deep cleaning, specialized cleaning, etc.) as well as service offerings and contact info for the top-ranked cleaning companies in the country.
What you can do…
Please let your mover know immediately if you or anyone in your family is experiencing coronavirus symptoms, as transparency is necessary to keep everyone safe. In many cases, the move can still happen with additional protocols in place to protect team members. Similarly, please advise your mover if you or anyone at your location is in a high-risk group. People over 60 and those with pre-existing respiratory and cardiovascular conditions should reconsider moving at this time, if possible.
You can also take the initiative to provide hygiene products for your movers. Leaving out products for use while they transport your items to and from the truck, like placing soap and paper towels by the sink and hand sanitizer by the door they’ll be entering and exiting through– is a great way to help everyone stay safe.
Another way to avoid exposure is to avoid seeking free or recycled moving boxes! COVID-19 can live on cardboard for as long as 24 hours, so now is not the time to be picking up free moving supplies from grocery stores and other places that are recycling them. Boxes you already have at home will be adequate to use, but if you need extras, you’ll want to buy them online or go to the store and purchase them new– preferably via self-checkout.
A silver lining?!
Social distancing means we are stuck in the house! This means before your move; you’ll have ample time and opportunity to organize and get rid of the things you no longer want or need. When you’ve moved into your new location, unpacking and organizing can be accomplished more efficiently and comfortably. More time at home means more time to do things around your home!
As we all know, guidelines and regulations are changing daily, so check out the American Moving and Storage Association for updates, links and more information about how to navigate your move during COVID-19– then head over to The Home Team to make your move as easy, and safe as possible!
