We’ve all been there – we’re searching for something that we just can’t seem to find, only to be buried under a pile of unnecessary stuff that never gets used. While having too many things throughout your home may seem like a right of passage, it can quickly become overwhelming if you’re planning an upcoming move.

Fortunately, many of your unwanted items can go to good use, and we’re here to help you get organized. If you aren’t able to sell your things before you move, donating your items is a great way to clear some space and do some good.

One of the most popular thrift stores in Pittsburgh, The East End Community Thrift is an entirely volunteer-based thrift store that will take your gently used clothes and household items. They offer extremely low prices on all of their items and work with quite a few nonprofits throughout the city to help those in need.

For nearly 30 years, this small thrift store has partnered with more than 100 charities in the area to provide free items, support community programs, and provide help to those that need it most.

Even better, they also give a portion of all donations to local charities to make an even more significant impact on the community. They’re always looking for volunteers, so ask how you can help when you’re dropping off your donations!

Thriftique is another fun thrift store that focuses on a boutique-like experience while also helping those in need. They’ll take gently used clothing, furniture, housewares, and home decor, meaning you can donate virtually anything to Thriftique that you may not need!

This thrift shop also has special sale days featuring designer labels and brands and seasonal sales with rock-bottom pricing. These programs allow shoppers to get high-end clothing while also saving money.

You know you’ll be doing good when you donate your unwanted items to Thriftique. They work directly with the National Council of Jewish Women, a large nonprofit that focuses on family and community stability.

Treasure House Fashions

Keeping women in mind for all of their programming and nonprofit work, Treasure House Fashions is another excellent choice for donating your unwanted items in Pittsburgh. They primarily focus on clothes, but offer a wide range of options, from casual wear to formal wear.

Since they focus on supporting women in the community, they only take in women’s clothing. However, they also have a significant online shopping presence on Amazon and eBay, so you know the clothing you donate will be put to good use!

They regularly host events in their store and around the city and create welcoming programs that positively impact the community.

Pickup Please

To get your donation process going, Pickup Please will come to you to take your unwanted items! You can’t make donating more accessible than that! Pickup Please is perfect for those with lots of clothes, furniture, and household items to give.

The pickup service is entirely free and supports The Vietnam Veterans of America nonprofit group. If you don’t want to schedule a pickup, you can also drop off your unwanted items at one of the many dropoff locations throughout Pittsburgh.

Loading and unloading countless boxes, furniture, and household items to donate can be just as tiring as moving into your new home or apartment – having a service come directly to you makes giving easier than ever.
